Patricia Spencer

Patricia Spencer, a founding member and flutist with the Da Capo Chamber Players, enjoys a career marked by exciting premieres: her New York premiere of Elliott Carter’s Flute Concerto; the US premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Kathinkas Gesang als Luzifers Requiem (staged scene for solo flute and electronic sounds); US premiere of Thea Musgrave’s Narcissus (for solo flute and digital delay); world premiere of Shulamit Ran’s Voices; and world premiere of Harvey Sollberger’s Riding the Wind I, have all received enthusiastic critical acclaim. Her solo CDs (Neuma Records) have also been greeted with warm enthusiasm by critics, as have countless chamber music recordings with the Da Capo Chamber Players, and dozens of works have been written for her. Spencer’s teachers include Robert Willoughby, Josef Marx, Marcel Moyse, and David Berman. She teaches flute and chamber music at Bard College/Conservatory and Hofstra University.
