Leone Buyse
Leone Buyse is Professor Emerita of Flute at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where she taught for 26 years. Previously she taught for four years at The University of Michigan after a 22-year orchestral career that included positions with the Boston Symphony (assistant, then acting principal flute) the Boston Pops (principal), the San Francisco Symphony (assistant principal), and the Rochester Philharmonic (second and solo piccolo). Currently a faculty member at OAcademy, a global online music conservatory, she has appeared as soloist, chamber musician, and master teacher throughout the Americas, Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. A 2010 recipient of the National Flute Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, she maintains a web presence at leonebuyse.com.
